Elite Performance Thoughts Part 2…

Making this week great…

On a monday morning, it’s a good idea to think about how you’re going to benefit from your strengths, rather than just be in possession of them for another week (without them adding anything specific to you). Just as an elite athlete would look ahead to a particular match or performance and work out how they were going to tactically play to their strengths, you can do the same thing. Pick out 2 or 3 key moments in your diary this week, write down a clear statement of what success looks like for each event and then identify which of your personal strengths are going to be particularly important in leading the line for you.

Once you’ve delivered the performance, having fully led with your strengths, you can do a quick review to see what new information you gained and what you’d like to do next time in order to get a similarly effective performance. Explicitly deciding how and when you’re going to deploy your talents is so much more effective than simply assuming that they’ll be there for you. After all, we know very well that talent alone is not enough, so this is a simple way of building on your talents to make sure you’re not one of the highly talented, unfulfilled potential mob!
